Inauguration 2025 – DC – Photos by Johnathan Comer

Inauguration Weekend in Washington, DC – January 18th to 20th, 2025

There was a lot to see and photograph this weekend: the Women’s March, Trump’s Rally at Capital One Arena, and of course Inauguration Day. I wasn’t able to make it into Capital One Arena or the Capitol, but there was plenty to photograph outside. Snow, sleet and freezing weather aside.

While I’ve broken down each day below, I wanted to highlight one specific photo that sums up the weekend nicely:

Some context behind this photo: This is outside of Capital One Arena, after Trump was sworn in. The actually story starts early that morning when folks started lining up in the bitter cold hoping to make it inside the arena to see Trump being sworn-in via simulcast. They brought with them bags, chairs, sleeping bags, food and such. When they got to the security checkpoint outside of the arena, they couldn’t bring any of that with them. So, they discarded much of what they brought in order to make it through security – including women’s purses, fanny packs, backpacks. It was a literal pile of trash by noon. The scene was made all the more unreal when departing supporters went through the piles of trash and pulled out purses, wallets, bags and anything seemingly valuable. This photo captures one such supporter leaving with a handful of purses that caught her eye. I’m sure there’s a metaphor buried in here somehow.
